Kansas City City Council members raised more than $50,000 Oct. 24 for breast cancer research during their Seventh Annual Breast Cancer Research Foundation Fundraiser at Bentons at The Westin- Crown Center.  This is one of the largest charitable one-night fundraisers done by a City Council anywhere in the United States.

Councilman Scott Taylor said, “This City Council is working well together and dedicated to helping find the cure for breast cancer in our lifetime.  This is one of the most important health issues of our time as it impacts every family in our City either directly or indirectly.”

This annual event, started by former Councilwoman Cathy Jolly (Taylor’s wife), has raised more than $300,000 over the past seven years. The Council and Mayor expressed their thanks to the citizens, businesses, trade unions, and firefighters that continue to support this important cause.

In addition to full support from the Mayor and City Council of Kansas City, guest supporters at the event included Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker, Jackson County Legislator Theresa Garza Ruiz, State Representatives Joe Runions and Judy Morgan, Independence Councilwoman Eileen Weir, and Lee’s Summit Mayor Pro Tem Allan Gray.

All contributions will go directly to breast cancer research at the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
