UPDATE: A robot detected a suspicious package outside of City Hall which was later destroyed by police. City Hall is expected to re-open around 3 p.m. today.

According to KMBC 9 News, the Kansas City City Hall was evacuated earlier this morning due to a bomb threat.

The Airport Terminal Advisory Group was holding its first public hearing regarding the Kansas City International Airport on the 26th floor of City Hall when a security officer told them they needed to evacuate. The airport meeting had been scheduled to discuss the future of KCI and allow the public to voice their input on potential changes to the airport.

All of City Hall was evacuated and police officers blocked off the surrounding streets to pedestrians and vehicle traffic.
