Saturday Homicide at Independence and Cleveland Avenues

Saturday evening around 5:45pm officers were called to the area of  Independence Ave and Cleveland on a shooting call.

Officers arrived and found a shooting victim on the front porch of an apartment building. Aid was rendered on the scene but the victim was declared deceased at the scene by EMS.

Police identified the victim Monday as 29-year-old Sylvester Simms.

There is no suspect information available at this time. 

If anyone did or knows anything they are asked to contact detectives directly at 234-5043 or the TIPS hotline anonymously at 474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest in this case.

This is the 18th homicide in Northeast since January 1 of this year.
