These historic Colonial Court apartments are likely headed for the wrecking ball thanks to a city government committee (PZED) that by default condones the demolition of historic structures without a hearing from the city’s Historic Preservation Commission, the department that, at least in theory, acts as a steward for historic properties and districts within the city limits.

While this burned out eyesore of a home, in the 1100 block of Bales, languishes on the city’s Dangerous Buildings list for over a year. It remains a continued blight on the surrounding neighborhood and directly across the street from a KCPS Elementary School. No demolition date set as of right now.
