Pendleton Heights residents living near Lexington and Prospect were jarred Saturday evening by a running gun battle that spanned a five-block stretch of Lexington Avenue and left one dead.

According to police reports, officers in the area of Lexington and Prospect heard a number of gunshots at approximately 7:15 p.m. An area canvas revealed a victim in a vehicle in a parking lot near Lexington and Garfield. The man, a black male in his early thirties, was pronounced dead a short time later.

At approximately 7:45 p.m., a shooting victim arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle. The man’s condition was unavailable. Authorities believe he was also shot in the area of Lexington and Garfield. Witnesses indicated that there were at least two people running along Lexington shooting at each other. Police are still trying to determine if the two victims were part of the same disturbance. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS (8477).
