Goin’ pink for the ta-tas

October 2, 2013

This newshound usually takes up this space on a weekly basis to rant against extravagant spending schemes launched by politicos looking for some legacy building project that will ultimately cost taxpayers millions. Streetcars seem to be the cause de jour these days. This month, however, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and that hits real close to home for this doggie and her family, especially after Mrs. Publisher was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in the summer of 2012.

We oft say we won the breast cancer lottery because the tumor was caught very early, and treatment involving surgery, chemo and radiation was successful.  Today, she who supplies the kibble is cancer-free. Too many times, however, the tale has a different and tragic ending. This news sniffin’ canine is a firm believer in early detection and that’s as easy as doin’ the ol’ self-check in front of a mirror in the privacy of your own home.

Through the course of this month, we here at the House of News will be going pink in order to promote awareness of this insidious disease and hopefully move closer to a cure. You’ll be seeing local firefighters clad in pink as well, all “fighting like a girl” to promote awareness, early detection and treatment of breast cancer. Later this week, we’ll be announcing a great way for you, our reader, to get involved too, just by buying a classified ad. Til then, fight on…like girls.
