This week our Face of Northeast is Mike Loges, Owner of the legendary Peter May’s House of Kielbasa.

Located at 1654 Bristol Ave., the family-owned kielbasa shop has carried on the family sausage recipe since 1924. Loges, who was born and raised in Northeast, prides himself in carrying on his family’s heritage.

“I’m the fourth generation doing the exact same thing that my great grandfather did, in the same location,” he said. “There’s pride in heritage in being a small business owner for almost a century.”

Whenever Loges isn’t making kielbasa, he spends quality time with his daughter by helping her with school or softball.

“I put hunting and everything like that to the side to make sure she can look after her hobbies and her dreams,” Loges said.

Northeast is home to Loges who said that the neighborhood has everything, and calls it the “melting pot of Kansas City,” due to its diversity in cultures.

Although Northeast has seen many changes throughout the years, Loges credits the residents for taking care of the area. “It is forgotten, yet it’s the heart of the city,” Loges said.
