This week we profile Mike Loges, owner of the iconic Peter May’s House of Kielbasa at 1654 Bristol in the old Blue River Valley community.
Back in the day, the neighborhood was home to many immigrant families from Eastern Block countries such as Poland and Romania and they often worked in the factories and mills that once lined the Blue River.
Mike is the fourth-generation owner of May’s, which has been in the same location, featuring sausages made the same way, since its founding in 1929.
“I’m proud to keep history going,” said Loges. “We’ve had people from Juneau, Alaska all the way to Kissimmee, Florida make special trips for our kielbasa.”
Loges and his wife Heidi operate the store with the help of family, churning out roughly 300 pounds of sausage a week.
