Donutology Care to Share donut boxes are wrapped with a bow and include an inspirational message.

One of KC’s favorite gourmet donut shops takes donuts to a charitable level to support not only those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, but also to support Operation Breakthrough.

Andrew Cameron knows there’s plenty of pent-up hugs during this era of social distancing. And the founder of Donutology knows that Kansas Citians support one another, especially in challenging times. That’s why he and his team developed Donutology Care to Share, an opportunity to honor healthcare workers and first responders with a donut hug that has benefits.

With every order, Donutology will donate $2 to Operation Breakthrough, Additionally, the program helps Donutology to maintain operations.

Like all small, locally-owned restaurants, Donutology has been severely affected by the economic disruption created by the pandemic and has shifted dine-in to pick-up and delivery and creative, philanthropic options like Care to Share.

“Since I opened my first donut shop, my mission has always been to elevate the happiness of those around me,” Cameron said. “People love donuts and sharing them with people they care about. Giving back is at Kansas City’s heart, it’s who we are and what we do when times get tough. And I can’t think of a more difficult time than what everyone, collectively, is experiencing right now. I want to give people a simple way to express their thanks for people on the frontlines of this healthcare crisis, while supporting a local charity and a local business — all impacted by the pandemic.”

“We are so appreciative that our friends at Donutology are thinking about our children and making them part of a larger effort to applaud the people who are front and center in caring for the community,” says Mary Esselman, CEO at Operation Breakthrough. “It’s a triple impact. People can express their thanks and help a local business, while also helping some of the most vulnerable children and families in Kansas City.”
