Kansas City’s Dermaus recycling center will soon receive some upgrades, thanks to a $49,679 grant from the Mid-America Regional Council.

To facilitate improvements, the recycling center, 4707 Deramus Ave., will be closed from May 16 to May 31.

Site renovations will include relocation of the site’s main office; stripping and resurfacing of the parking lot; fence repair and replacement, among other aesthetic improvements.

“This improvement project will make a tremendous difference for both the residents that use the site and the dedicated volunteers and staff that make this operation possible,” said Michael Shaw, manager of the city’s Solid Waste Division. “This temporary closure will yield benefits for years to come.”

While the Deramus recycling center is closed, residents are encouraged to recycle at the city’s other two recycling centers, Metro North Mall, 400 N.W. Barry Road, or at the former Wal-Mart Supercenter parking lot, 9051 Hillcrest Road.
