Crime, Safety cited for fourth camp clean up this year

Based on a sharp increase in neighbor complaints, Travis Silvers, one of the city’s Illegal Dumping Investigators responded to the 500 block of Lawndale this morning with Independence Avenue C I D Avenue Angels (Titan Security)  for the second time this month to clean out an occupied illegal dump site and houseless encampment.

“This is an ever increasing problem all over the city” Silvers said. “We are committed to maintaining the cleanliness of our communities as best we can,” this is just one of many areas that needs to be addressed.”

One nearby business owner said that theft, customer harassment  and vandalism from the camp has been an ongoing issue.

Crews were on this site roughly a year back and again over the summer. This is the fourth clean up action for this camp this year. Part of what city crews hauled away was a roughly 12-foot section of razor wire that had been cut from the roof of a nearby pawn shop.
