Nearly 1,000 people participate in the 27th Annual Cliff Hanger 5K/8K race. Participants dressed in layers to stay warm during the race that winds through the Cliff Drive Scenic Byway. Years ago, the race began as a fundraiser for the pre-school at Assumption Church and the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s school for the handicapped. The tradition of giving back has continued over the years and several charities benefit from sponsor and individual donations each year. This year’s charities include Northeast Neighbor to Neighbor, Gladstone Elementary School and the Missouri Special Olympics. At left, a group of runners race along Cliff Drive.
