According to court records, police we3re called to the 3100 block of Thompson on a shooting call  at approximately 12:30 on Wednesday. While no victim was present, a crime scene was established at that location. Roughly 23 shell casings of two types were located nearby in a parking lot behind 3119 Thompson.

Shortly thereafter, officers were called to the area of Admiral Blvd. and Lydia on the report of a shooting victim in a grey Toyota who’s driver flagged down a KCFD EMS unit on an unrelated call. The victim, Lars was declared deceased at the scene.

According to court records, the defendant told police that she knew the victim would be near Independence Avenue and Benton, met him there and followed him. The victim pulled out a gun and started firing at another vehicle and Coppage fired from her vehicle, hitting the victim.

During the course of the investigation it was learned that family members of a sixteen year old male who was shot and killed at 25th and Kensington on January 10th of this year believed that Lars was involved in that killing and had been searching for him since that day.

During a search of Coppage’s South Kansas City apartment a weapon was located there and in the glove box of the Toyota that had been involved in the shootout near Benton and Thompson.

Coppage is being held in the Jackson County Detention Center on $200,000 cash bond.
