Rain didn’t deter area residents from attending the Columbus Day Social Saturday, Oct. 13.

Hosted by the American Sons of Columbus, 2415 Independence Ave., the event included an array of activities. Local Italian-American businesses displayed their goods and local merchants provided food and wine tastings. In addition, there was a Kansas City Italian history display, pumpkin decorating, fresh cannoli, a live broadcast of “Live from Jasper’s Kitchen,” and musical entertainment.

American Sons of Columbus hosted the event to celebrate Christopher Columbus Day.

“I look at Columbus Day as a way to promote the positive history of Italians in Kansas City,” said Jody Valet, member of the American Daughters of Columbus and organizer of the event.
