The charred remains of a mobile home abandoned under the 23rd street viaduct just off I-435 is the city’s latest illegal dumping investigation and its a real doozie!

According to the city’s illegal dumping investigator, Alan Ashhurst, the full size mobile home was occupied by squatters, a man and a woman until roughly one week ago.

Jackson County records show the trailer was originally located at the Heart Mobile Village prior to being sold to a third party. Heart Mobile Village is the site for the county’s proposed new jail facility. At this point, its unknown how the trailer was transported to it’s present location under the bridge or why it was burned.

“We’ve got some leads on who may have left this here and we’re working those as we speak,” Ashurst said. “Its an ongoing investigation but this, this right here kind of takes things to a whole new level.”

The Northeast News has just learned that locally owned demolition contractor Industrial Salvage and Wrecking has been hired by Jackson County to dismantle and remove the trailer.
