This Book of the Week was selected by Samantha Edwards, Youth and Family Engagement Librarian for the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library.

Samantha chose “Lift” by Mihn Lê and Illustrated by Dan Santat.

“A young girl is jealous of the attention her little brother is getting and finds an escape into an imaginative world using a discarded elevator button,” Samantha said. “The book personifies how important it is that kids get space and time to process their big feelings. Dan Santat’s cinematic comic-book style and Mihn Lê’s sparse text makes the story read like a wordless Pixar short. A relatable story of siblinghood perfect for celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month.”

A physical copy of this book is available through the Kansas City Public Library.
