This week’s Book of the Week was chosen by Debbie Gamm, Senior Library Technical Assistant with the North-East Branch Library.

Debbie chose “Cinnamon” by Neil Gaiman, illustrated by Divya Srinivasan and narrated by Nirvi Shah Bhargava.

“‘Cinnamon’ is a children’s book that has been around since 1995, but only in picture book form since 2017,” Debbie said. “Neil Gaiman has written a beautiful story about a blind Indian princess and the struggle to make her talk. Enter a large, (supposedly) man-eating tiger! He is there to accomplish what many others before him have not done – to make the young girl talk. This is an unusual story, an unexpected friendship that grows from the need to be understood and loved.”

“Cinnamon” is available as an e-book and Digibook. VOX Books, labeled with a sticker, is an indicator of a Digibook, which contains a device that, when activated, will read the story aloud and dictate when to turn the page.
