An argument near an Independence Avenue gas station led to a homicide on Tuesday, November 28, authorities say.

Police were called to the scene of a homicide at the intersection of Woodland and Independence Ave. at approximately 3 p.m. on November 28. Witnesses told officers that the fatal altercation began with a verbal disturbance near the BP gas station at the intersection of Independence Ave. and Maple. As the victim and suspect walked westbound towards Woodland, the argument turned physically violent. Upon arrival, authorities found the victim, identified as a black male in his 30’s, unresponsive in the street with apparent stab wounds. Police have detained an individual who is deemed a person of interest. This is the 131st recorded homicide in Kansas City, Missouri in 2017.
