Experiencing KC Opportunity Zones
Participants will learn about the benefits of utilizing Opportunity Zone incentives applied to residential and commercial development projects with Northeast Kansas City and other urban KC locations. Economic development staff from Representative Cleaver’s Office and other KC professionals will lead this interactive discussion. This event will be held Wednesday, April 10 from 10am to 12pm at the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce (2657 Independence Avenue).

 

Thurdsay, April 11

Olive Center Bilingual Play Group
Start at Zero will be hosting an open, bilingual playgroup at the Olive Center (555 Olive) on Thursday, April 11th from 10 am to 12pm. Open play will also be held from 1pm to 5:30pm. If you’d like to bring your child to play, stop by the Success by 6 Center during this time. They will have toys, activities and fun during Open Play time.

 

Friday, April 12

Multi-Cultural Business Coalition Week Breakfast
Join in for the opportunity to network and enjoy a meal with urban development leaders from Egypt! The event will begin with breakfast and networking, then will switch gears at 8:30am to allow each delegate to speak about themselves, their work, and to answer questions from the audience. This event will be held Friday, April 12 from 8 am to 9:30 am at the Northeast Chamber of Commerce (2657 Independence Avenue). Cost is $10/person.

 

Saturday, April 13

11th Annual Money Smart Day
Choose from a dozen free educational sessions covering a variety of money-related topics, and receive a copy of your credit report for free! Participants will receive a voucher worth up to $100 off of your Kansas City Public Library fines and fees. The event is open to the public and registration is not necessary. This event will be held Saturday, April 13 from 11am to 3pm at the Central Library (14 W. 10th St.).

Teen Drop-In: Poetry Workshop
Every second Saturday of the month, the Northeast Library hosts a teen drop-in. This month join in for a poetry workshop. Learn how to perform and write poetry that is awesome, just like you! This event is for teens ages 12-18. This event will be held Saturday, April 13th at the Northeast Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) from 2pm to 3:30pm.

National Crime Victim’s Rights Week Event
The event will host over 40 health and resource vendors, free medical assessments, self-care massages, and an Easter egg hunt. There will be a basketball game between the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department. There will be a community basketball team that will play against the City of Kansas City employees. Mayoral Candidate Quinton Lucas, will be the guest referee. The event will have a tribute wall, resource table for local homicide victims, and unsolved cases. Many homicide victims families will be in attendance to provide information on their unsolved cases. The event will be held Saturday, April 13th from 12pm to 4pm at the Gregg Klice Community Center (1600 John Buck O’Neil Way, Kansas City, MO 64108).

 

Sunday, April 14

Dedication Ceremony honoring Anthony Saluto
The Saluto family, Lorrie Brown, and BikeWalkKC will dedicate a “ghost bike” memorial bike rack in City Market Park to honor the life of Anthony Saluto, who was struck by a car and killed while he was riding his bike on Independence Avenue in April of 2016. The dedication ceremony will be held Sunday, April 14, 2019 at 3pm at City Market Park (300-398 Main Street, KCMO 64152). All who knew Anthony or want to honor his life are welcome to attend.
