ESL Conversation Group
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an ESL Conversation Group on Wednesday, September 5, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In class you will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. We speak Kansas City
The public is invited to the North-East Public Library on Wednesday, September 19 from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. to participate in it’s new We Speak KC conversational English class, for beginning to intermediate English language learners. We will discuss talking to your doctor, your children’s teachers, your landlord, and more! Women Against ISIS film screening
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will screen the documentary film ‘Women Against ISIS’ on Wednesday, September 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The screening is part of the Women in ACTION film series. In the war against the Islamic State, the only movement combating the jihadists with any effectiveness on the ground is the Kurdish resistance army. This movement is made up of both men and women fighters forcing back the jihadists and reclaiming the land village by village.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drop in tech coach
The North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library will bring in a tech coach to assist the public on Thursday, September 20, from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Get answers to questions about Microsoft Word and Excel; the internet; email, formatting a resume and online applications; syncing your smart phone, and so much more.

 

Friday, September 21

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, September 21, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, stength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Food Truck Friday
The public is invited to the next Food Truck Friday event at Union Cemetery (227 E. 28th Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64108) on Friday, September 21, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Come enjoy a tasty and affordable lunch in one of downtown’s peaceful park spaces.

Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk 2018
The final installment of the Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk 2018 free concert series will be held on Friday, September 21, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at The Concourse Park in the Colonnade Building. The featured artist at this final concert is Cucharada, who will be performing tango music.

 

Saturday, September 22

‘Annihilation’ at the library
The Central branch of the Kansas City Public Library continues its Fresh Flicks series on Saturday, September 22, with a screening of Annihilation beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Library this month gives the big-screen treatment to five notable films recently released to DVD—from rock ’em sock ’em action to gut-busting comedy to breathless suspense. Moving forward, A Quiet Place will be screened on September 29.

Crown Crafted Music Series
One KC Radio’s Crown Crafted Music Series welcomes Enrique Chi and Juan Carlos of Making Movies to the North Independence branch of the Mid Continent Library (317 W. 24 Hwy, Independence, MO, 64050) on Saturday, September 22, from 3:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. The show is free to attend and open to all ages. An opening set will be performed by DJ FK Menace.

The next meeting of the Sheffield Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, September 24, beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (1029 Bennington).

 

Tuesday, September 25

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, September 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

History @ Monument
The next Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City, Inc. history presentation at Ilus Davis Park (just north of KCMO City Hall) will be held on Thursday, September 27, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with complimentary Irish food. The September 27 program will feature the history of the Irish in Kansas City, presented by Pat O’Neil. RSVP is requested through the Kansas City Parks and Recreation community calendar web site.
