ESL Conversation Group
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host and ESL Conversation Group on Wednesday, July 18, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In class you will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Drop in tech coach
The Northeast branch of the Kansas City Public Library will bring in a tech coach to assist the public on Thursday, July 19 from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Get answers to questions about Microsoft Word and Excel; the internet; email, formatting a resume and online applications; syncing your smart phone, and so much more.

Food Truck Friday at Union Cemetery
The next Food Truck Friday at Union Cemetery (227 E. 28th Terrace, Kansas City, MO) will be held on Friday, June 20 from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Enjoy lunch at one of Kansas City’s historic cemeteries.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, July 20, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Mad Science: The Science of Magic
The Northeast branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host ‘Mad Science: The Science of Magic’ on Friday, July 20, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Join Mad Science of Greater Kansas City for hands on science fun! Instruments are the focus of this loud workshop; kids learn how vibrations are generated.

SummerDusk 2018 Free Concert Series
The Northeast Arts KC SummerDusk 2018 Free Concert Series continues on Friday, July 20, with a performance from Zoltan and the Fortune Tellers from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Colonnade building at Concourse Park.

 

Saturday, July 21

Family Fun & Fit day at the Grove
Area families are invited to The Grove (1500 Benton Blvd.) on Saturday, July 21 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. for Family Fun & Fit Day. This event is free to attend and open to the community. Come experience The Ironman Obstacle for youth, explore the challenge course, and enjoy family friendly games. Join in on a family kickball or softball game, fun fitness dances and demonstrations. Smooth sounds from DJ Mo Heat. Refreshments provided.

KCMO Parks and Rec Big Picnic 2018
Big Picnic 2018 will be held on Sunday, July 22, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park. This evening of live music, food trucks, art activities and lawn games stretches from the museum to Brush Creek. Discover more than 30 sculptures and celebrate #WhereKCPlays during National Parks and Recreation month. This event will occur Rain or shine; no grills, no stakes, no tenting. Highlights will include a performance from StoneLion Puppet Theater, a Plein Air “Quick Paint” contest, and recreation stations featuring badminton and lawn games by KC Crew. For those driving to the event: Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. will be closed from Oak Street to Rockhill Road will for the Big Picnic from 2-9 p.m. Detour from the East-south on Rockhill Road to Volker to Oak Street; from the West-south on Oak Street to Volker to Rockhill Road.

Summer Food Rocks at Sycamore Groves
Sycamore Groves Apartments (2920 E. 17th St.) is feeding children and teens this summer (ages 1-18) as part of its Summer Food Rocks free summer meal program. From June 3 through August 4, Sycamore Groves will be offering free breakfast (9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.) and lunch (12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday. Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!
