Housing Policy meeting at Samuel U. Rodgers
The public is invited to the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center (825 Euclid) on Wednesday, May 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for a meeting about Kansas City’s Housing Policy. The meeting will provide a platform for citizens to provide thoughts about the current and future citywide needs regarding housing. Can’t make it to the May 23 meeting? Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

English Class at the North-East Library
Do someone you know need help with their English language skills? Bring them to the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Thursday, May 24, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for help with basic vocabulary, grammar and usage. Help them gain confidence using English in their daily life.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, May 25, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Memorial Day Weekend at Liberty Memorial
Memorial Day Weekend activities at the Liberty Memorial will run from Friday, May 25 until Monday, May 28. During the whole weekend, the World War I Museum will offer free admission to veterans and active military personnel, along with half-price admission to the general public. Vintage military vehicles will be on display and special events will be held throughout the weekend. Serial Mom at Central Branch
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host continue its Bad Moms film series on Saturday, May 26 with a screening of Serial Mom, beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault. Be forwarned: this movie is rated R (restricted).

 

Sunday, May 27

Bank of America Celebration at the Station
Union Station will host the Celebration at the Station event on Sunday, May 27 in honor of Memorial Day. The Kansas City Symphony’s 16th annual patriotic concert event is the largest free Memorial Day weekend festival in the Midwest. From a moving Symphony concert to the city’s grandest fireworks display, nothing celebrates our military and veterans quite like Bank of America Celebration at the Station. The event site will open at 3 p.m. and the concert will begin at 8 p.m.

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, May 29 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

 

Back to Basics: Entreneurship for re-entering citizens
Stop by the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, May 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a program about re-entering the workforce following a period of incarceration. Do you have a criminal record?
Do you have a skill or hobby that you want to turn into a money-making venture?
Learn what it really takes to start a business and how the entrepreneurial mindset can help you reenter your community from incarceration.
This program is hosted by Mr. Kyle J. Smith of KCSourceLink and 1 Million Cups, and will be held on the library’s third floor H&R Block Business and Career Center.
