Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Tech Coach Drop-in at Northeast Library
Stop by the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Thursday, April 12 from 5 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. to speak with a technology coach. The coaches will help with whatever technology questions you have–from building a resume to building a website. No appointment necessary; patrons can use library computers or bring in their own device.

 

Friday, April 13

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, April 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Saturday, April 14

Crafts N’ Creations
The Northeast Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an adult crafting event on Saturday, April 14, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. This program occurs on the second Saturday of every month, and is appropriate for ages 18 and up. This time, attendees will be folding books into shapes, including a heart! All supplies are provided by the library.

Take a tour of the historic Central Library branch on Saturday, April 14 from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Experience a guided, beyond-the-bookshelves tour of the Central Library’s unique spaces and rich history. The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Monday, April 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Public Library (6000 Wilson Ave.)

Create a basic budget with Excel
Head out to the Central branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Monday, April 16 beginning at 6:30 p.m. to learn how to create a basic budget using Microsoft Excel. Learn how to use Microsoft Excel online for free to automatically calculate your expenses each month. Tuesday, April 17

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, April 17 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

Fountain Day 2018
Kansas City will celebrate Fountain Day on Tuesday, April 17, with a ceremony beginning at 11 a.m. at the Spirit of Freedom Fountain (Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. and Cleveland Ave.). Fountain Day is a spring ritual and holiday unique to Kansas City, in which the city’s fountains are turned on for the season. Join the Board of Parks and Recreation Commissioners and the City of Fountains Foundation for this annual celebration at our newly renovated fountain made possible by GOkc bond funds. Attend a follow-up reception at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center immediately following the ceremony.

Independence Ave. BRT study – community meeting
Want to learn more about bus rapid transit in the Historic Northeast? Head out to the Independence Avenue CID building (2657 Independence Ave.) on Tuesday, April 17 from 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. for a community meeting about the Independence Avenue Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Study.

NEAT General meeting
The next general meeting of Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) will be held on Thursday, April 19, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Northeast Public Library. Ana Ramirez, NEAT AmeriCorps VISTA, will present on engagement she did this winter of 197 Northeast High School Students and how that information can be used to reduce and prevent youth violence in the Northeast.

Dedication of Native Sons and Daughters monument
The new monument at Ilus Davis Park (north of City Hall, between 9th and 11th Streets) will be dedicated on Thursday, April 19, beginning at 10 a.m. The event will be a celebration for the new monument honoring The Native Sons and Daughters of Greater Kansas City, Inc., an organization dedicated to the historic preservation of the unique and rich heritage of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area, both in
Missouri and Kansas, through advocacy, education and restoration.

Food Truck Friday at Union Cemetery
