Coffee and Connections: Community Resource Fair
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host a community resource fair on Wednesday, March 21, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Thee fair will feature service providers from various social service sectors: Housing, Medical, Immunizations and STI/HIV testing, Reentry, Food Assistance, Legal Aid, and more. The event will be held on the library’s third floor, in the Kauffman Grand Reading Room.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) meeting
The next Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT) meeting will be on Thursday, March 22nd at 8:30 a.m. at the Northeast Branch Public Library at 6000 Wilson Rd.

Northeast Chamber – Cultures Spring Art
The Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will host the Cultures Spring Art event this weekend, from March 23 to March 25. The Chamber will host an opening reception at the EGG Business Incubator (2659 Independence Blvd.) from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 23, before holding Saturday hours from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday hours from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Featured artists will include Kevin Callahan, Rachel Rose, Haley Sellmeyer, Sheila Rekdal, and Ariel Rose.

 

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, March 23, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Central Library: Movies that mean business series
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will continue it’s ‘Movies That Mean Business’ series on Saturday, March 24 at 1:30 p.m. with a screening of Standing in the Shadows of Motown in the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault. This month, the library is screening documentaries on entrepreneurship, ranging from a profile of the great Steve Jobs to the anonymous session musicians who became the backbone of Motown’s music industry success. Each offers an entertaining storyline as well as valuable insight into business success.

Citizenship Interview Practice
Do you or someone you know need help with a naturalization interview? Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Monday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for free assistance. Drop-ins welcome, no appointment necessary. Volunteers are now available to help you practice: speaking English (eligibility interview based on N-400 form), reading English (correctly read one out of three Naturalization Test sentences), writing English (correctly write one out of three Naturalization Test sentences), answering civics questions (correctly answer six out of ten randomly chosen USCIS questions), and much more.

 

Sheffield Neighborhood Association Meeting
The next meeting of the Sheffield Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, March 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (1029 Bennington).

Free Tax Prep at Central Library
Come out to the Northeast Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, March 27, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. for help with tax preparation. Representatives from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be on hand to assist with your federal and state (MO and KS) income tax returns. This service is for walk-ins only, and is available to individuals making $60,000 per year or less. Please bring the following items:
-Proof of identification (photo ID)
-Social Security cards or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents (Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN)
-Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents
-Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc)
-Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
-All 1095 Forms, Health Insurance Statements Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received
-A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
-Direct deposit and/or banking information
-Proof of daycare expenses with provider name, address and ID number
-Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.

The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association’s annual Easter Egg Hunt at The Concourse will be held on Saturday, March 31, beginning at 10 a.m. There will be three hunts separated by age group. The eggs go fast, so arrive on time to guarantee participation.

 

Retirement toast for Claudia Visnich
North-East Public Library branch manager Claudia Visnich is retiring, and the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce is planning to honor her at its headquarters (2657 Independence Blvd.) on Thursday, March 29 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. A champagne toast and cake will be provided at 6 p.m.
