Thursday, March 15

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

KCPD outreach at Sycamore Groves
The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department will host a local outreach event at Sycamore Groves Apartments on Thursday, March 15 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. to hand out basic living supplies to families in need. In addition to cleaning and personal hygiene supplies, KCPD will also bring social service agencies to the outreach event.
Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, March 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center (1512 Van Brunt).

 

Friday, March 16

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, March 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Saturday, March 17

Central Library: Movies that mean business series
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will continue it’s ‘Movies That Mean Business’ series on Saturday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. with a screening of Steve Jobs: One Last Thing in the Stanley H. Durwood Film Vault. This month, the library is screening documentaries on entrepreneurship, ranging from a profile of the great Steve Jobs to the anonymous session musicians who became the backbone of Motown’s music industry success. Each offers an entertaining storyline as well as valuable insight into business success.

 

Sunday, March 18

St. Joseph Table events
St. Anthony Catholic Church (309 Benton Blvd.) and Holy Rosary Parish (910 Pacific Ave.) will be hosting St. Joseph’s Table events this year on Sunday, March 18 and Monday, March 19. At St. Anthony, viewings of the table will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday. A mass in honor of St. Joseph will be held on Monday, beginning at 8 a.m. After the Mass Celebration, the St. Joseph’s Table will be blessed and a Pasta Milanese dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. At Holy Rosary, the St. Joseph’s Table will be blessed at noon on March 18, with viewings until 5 p.m. On Monday, March 19, a 10 a.m. Mass will be followed by a procession, and pasta will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Citizenship Interview Practice
Do you or someone you know need help with a naturalization interview? Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Monday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. for free assistance. Drop-ins welcome, no appointment necessary. Volunteers are now available to help you practice: speaking English (eligibility interview based on N-400 form), reading English (correctly read one out of three Naturalization Test sentences), writing English (correctly write one out of three Naturalization Test sentences), answering civics questions (correctly answer six out of ten randomly chosen USCIS questions), and much more.

 

Holy Cross St. Joseph’s Table
Holy Cross Catholic Church (5106 St. John) will host its St. Joseph’s Table event on Monday, March 19, beginning with a mass at 8:30 a.m. Viewing will begin at 10 a.m., with lunch being served from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Monday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Kansas City Public Library Northeast Branch (6000 Wilson Ave)

 

Pendleton ArtsBlock Groundbreaking
Brinshore Development and the Housing Authority of Kansas City, Missouri will be hosting a groundbreaking ceremony and presenting the second annual Choice Neighborhoods report on Monday, March 19, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northeast Community Center (555 Olive). The event will celebrate the groundbreaking of three housing developments along Independence Avenue: Pendleton ArtsBlock, Quinlan Place and Quinlan Row.

 

Tuesday, March 20

Free Tax Prep at Central Library
Come out to the Northeast Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, March 20, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. for help with tax preparation. Representatives from Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will be on hand to assist with your federal and state (MO and KS) income tax returns. This service is for walk-ins only, and is available to individuals making $60,000 per year or less. Please bring the following items:
-Proof of identification (photo ID)
-Social Security cards or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) assignment letter for you, your spouse and dependents (Proof of foreign status, if applying for an ITIN)
-Birth dates for you, your spouse and dependents
-Wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099-R,1099-Misc)
-Interest and dividend statements from banks (Forms 1099)
-All 1095 Forms, Health Insurance Statements Health Insurance Exemption Certificate, if received
-A copy of last year’s federal and state returns, if available
-Direct deposit and/or banking information
-Proof of daycare expenses with provider name, address and ID number
-Copies of income transcripts from IRS and state, if applicable
To file taxes electronically on a married-filing-joint tax return, both spouses must be present to sign the required forms.
