Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Suiting Up: Tailored Menswear in KC, 1900-2017
The Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District Museum (800 Broadway) has opened a new exhibit focusing on historical menswear. The Suiting Up: Tailored Menswear in Kansas City, 1900-2017 exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays until February 24. The exhibit explores the history and evolution of tailored menswear in Kansas City from the 20th century to the present, and highlights some of Kansas City’s gentlemen of style throughout the last century. The cost to view the special exhibit is $5.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, January 12, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Crafts ‘N Creations: Painted Wine Glasses
Stop by the North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, January 13 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. to paint wine glasses as part of the library’s latest craft series. Join the library the second Saturday of every month for an adult craft activity. This program is appropriate for ages 18+. All supplies are provided by the library.

MLK Jr. Day 2018 Nature Walk
Join the MLK Jr. Day 2018 Nature Walk on Monday, January 15, beginning at 1 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Square (Swope Parkway & Woodland Ave.). Join the Heartland Conservation Alliance and KC Parks on a 1.5 mile restorative walk along the banks of beautiful Brush Creek. Enjoy the company of others and the stillness of nature as we reflect on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The walk will conclude at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center (3700 Blue Parkway), where shuttles will provide rides back to the park.

Interested in volunteering for Refugee & Immigrant Services & Empowerment (RISE)? Graphic Novel Book Club
Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, January 16, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. Parking is free.

 

Art in the Park information session
KC Parks will host ‘Art in the Park’ this summer at West Terrace Park (8th and Jefferson), and in preparation the department will host and information session on Tuesday, January 16, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Charlotte Street Foundation (40th and Troost).The event is one component of the Art in the Loop Project, whose goal is to infuse the center of Downtown Kansas City with innovative and engaging temporary art that will refresh, intrigue and surprise our audience of Downtown employees, residents and visitors. Equally important, the project will also create an opportunity for local emerging and established artists to extend their practice into the Downtown environment with curatorial, professional and logistical support. A series of art installations and performances will take place in West Terrace Park, on the KC Streetcar and at the KC Public Central Library from May 1 through September 30, 2018.

Teen Lock in at North-East branch
On Saturday, January 20, teens are invited to the North-East Library from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. for a lock-in party. Come enjoy a teen lock in with a treasure hunt, break out box, slime and Captain Jack Sparrow. All attendees must have a signed permission slip to enter and stay for the event. These can be picked up and turned in at the front desk of the library.
