Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Suiting Up: Tailored Menswear in KC, 1900-2017
The Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District Museum (800 Broadway) has opened a new exhibit focusing on historical menswear. The Suiting Up: Tailored Menswear in Kansas City, 1900-2017 exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Wednesdays through Saturdays until February 24. The exhibit explores the history and evolution of tailored menswear in Kansas City from the 20th century to the present, and highlights some of Kansas City’s gentlemen of style throughout the last century. The cost to view the special exhibit is $5.

Drop in tech coach at North-East Public Library

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, December 29, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Saturday, January 6

Heart Healthy Line Dancing
Stop by the North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, January 6 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the next installment of Heart Healthy Line Dancing, where you can get your heart pumping with instructive and fun line dancing led by the Stepp-Tacular Steppers.

 

Sunday, January 7

North-East Book Club
The North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host the next North-East Book Club meeting on Sunday, January 7, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. This month’s book is A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. Come to the North East Book Group each month to share your passion for books and join in on riveting book discussions.

 

Monday, January 8

Stay strong, stay healthy
Northeast residents will love the simple strength-building exercises offered at another session of Stay Strong, Stay Healthy – which will begin on Monday, Jan. 8, from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Designed for adults over age 60, persons of any age will improve their balance, reduce stress, strengthen bones, relieve arthritis, and more. Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting
The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, January 8, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum.

 

Lykins Neighborhood meeting
The next Lykins Neighborhood meeting will be held on Monday, January 8, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3704 E. 12th St. Join Lykins neighbors as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups, and focus on creating a better community. Other neighborhoods in Historic Northeast are more than welcome to join.

Parks Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Parks Board will on Tuesday, January 9, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the KC Parks Administration building (4600 East 63rd Street Trafficway). The Board of Parks and Recreation holds public meetings twice a month on Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. All meetings start at 2 p.m. and are open to the public.

 

Independence Plaza Council Monthly Meeting
Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 9, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School, 711 Woodland Ave., KCMO.

 

Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association meeting
The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 9, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences,1750 Independence Avenue.

 

Graphic Novel Book Club
Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, January 2, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. Parking is free.

MLK Jr. Day 2018 Nature Walk
Join the MLK Jr. Day 2018 Nature Walk on Monday, January 15, beginning at 1 p.m. at Martin Luther King Jr. Square (Swope Parkway & Woodland Ave.). Join the Heartland Conservation Alliance and KC Parks on a 1.5 mile restorative walk along the banks of beautiful Brush Creek. Enjoy the company of others and the stillness of nature as we reflect on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The walk will conclude at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center (3700 Blue Parkway), where shuttles will provide rides back to the park.
