Flu shots at KCMO Health Department
The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department (2400 Troost) is currently offering flu shots during regular clinic hours, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays. The Health Department will bill Medicare Part B or Medicaid on behalf of those who provide proof of coverage. The Department is also accepting private insurance. Children who qualify under the Federal Vaccine for Children program will receive vaccine provided through that program. All others will be charged $30 per shot or $55 for the high-dose formulation (available to seniors 65 years and older). Non-Kansas City residents will be charged an additional $10 administration fee. Cash and credit cards only will be accepted for payment.

 

Substance abuse recovery
A substance abuse recovery meeting will take place at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at New Beginning Apostolic Church. Contact Frederick Wilson (816-786-1981) for more information.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Northeast Farmer’s Market
The last Northeast Farmer’s Market of the season will be held on Thursday, October 5, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, October 6, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

Knights of Columbus Dinner/Bingo
The next bingo/dinner night hosted by the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 will be held at St. Anthony’s ~ St. Joseph Hall (3208 Lexington 64124) on Friday, October 6. A dinner of an Italian steak sandwich and chips will be served for $6 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.. and bingo will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Coffee is included; other drinks and desserts are available for $1.

 

Saturday, October 7

 

KC Games for Good
KC Games for Good, an event to celebrate civic pride, will be held on Saturday, October 7 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the southeast lawn of the National World War I Museum (2 Memorial Drive, Kansas City, MO) . This one day event includes competitive games for all, a kids scavenger hunt, food and entertainment. All proceeds help to support those in need who are served locally by such organizations as the Urban Ranger Corps and Hope House, as well as those served around the globe through the Plaza Rotary Foundation. English Class
The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to the library on Monday, October 9 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an opportunity to brush up on the English language. Learn basic vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Gain confidence in using English in your daily life.

 

Lykins Neighborhood meeting
The next Lykins Neighborhood meeting will be held on Monday, October 9, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3704 E. 12th St. Join Lykins neighbors as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups, and focus on creating a better community. Other neighborhoods in Historic Northeast are more than welcome to join.

Kansas City Museum construction kickoff
Members and supporters of the Kansas City Museum restoration and renovation project are invited to attend a special ceremony to celebrate the beginning of construction on Tuesday, October 10, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the historic grounds of the Kansas City Museum. This special ceremony also will recognize the start of the work of JE Dunn Construction Co., the project’s construction manager, which is beginning work in October to add exhibition galleries and amenities to the Museum that include: Museum Café and Demonstration Kitchen; Soda Fountain; Billiards Room; Museum Retail Store; Theater / Auditorium; Classroom and Meeting Room.

 

Graphic Novel Book Club
Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, October 10, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. Parking is free.

 

Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association meeting
The Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 10, from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences,1750 Independence Avenue.
