Making a Museum tour 

The Kansas City Museum’s final Making a Museum tour before construction begins at Corinthian Hall will be held on Wednesday, July 26, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. Guided by Museum Executive Director Anna Marie Tutera, tour the first floor of Corinthian Hall and learn about the Museum’s new mission, vision and restoration/renovation planning process. Participate in a conversation and share ideas about the development of future programs, exhibitions, events and volunteer opportunities. Tours are free to attend, but RSVP is required.  Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic

The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Northeast Farmer’s Market

The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, July 27, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. KC Museum parking plan

The public is invited to the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) to provide input about the museum’s parking situation on Thursday, July 27, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The conversation will focus on the development of a parking solution for the Museum when it re-opens in 2019. Attendees will meet outside on the west end of the Museum, and will have a chance to look at layout concepts and provide feedback. Tents and bottled water will be provided.

KCPD Chief of Police finalist forum

The public is invited to a community forum with the KCPD Chief of Police finalists on Thursday, July 27, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Community Room at KCPD Headquarters (1125 Locust). This is your chance to meet the two finalists: KCPD Central Patrol Division Major Rick Smith and current Norman, Oklahoma Chief of Police Keith Humphrey. Area residents have been encouraged to submit questions for the candidates prior to the meeting. Chair Fitness

The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, July 28, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Showing of Fearless

The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host a screening of director Peter Weir’s “Fearless” on Saturday, July 29, beginning at 1:30 p.m. Despite six Oscar nominations, Weir remains one of his generation’s most under appreciated directors. As such, the library will screen five of the 72-year-old Australian auteur’s best films in July.

Grand Opening – West Terrace Off-Leash Dog Park

The West Terrace Off-Leash Dog Park (750 Pennsylvania) will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, July 29, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. The ceremony begins at 4 p.m., but free access to the park will be granted throughout the event. Grand Opening activities include a cash bar, pictures with your dog, pup cake, agility course, dog splash pool, canine art and more. Treat bags will be available for the first 200 dogs in attendance. Parking will be available at 610 Washington Street. The gate house will be manned between 4-6 p.m. to provide access to the lot.

Come out the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Sunday, July 30 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the next edition of Sunday Matinee. Come to the library and enjoy an afternoon movie on the big screen. This event is suitable for all ages.

Kids’ Cafe

The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites kids to the library on Monday, July 31 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Kids’ Cafe, where young children and teens alike can enjoy a healthy snack. This event is for youth 18 and under. The Kids’ Cafe is held every week during the summer months, from Monday-Thursday.

Story Time at Central Branch

Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, August 1, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Join every Tuesday for stories, songs and plenty of time for play.  During Story Time, parking is free.

National Night Out in Indian Mound

Join neighbors from 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm at Budd Park Esplanade between Van Brunt Blvd & Brighton Ave. There will be numerous events, activities, food, prizes, opportunities to meet new neighbors, plus information and tips on crime prevention and block watch training. A free, family friendly event hosted by the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association!

Mattie Rhodes Center Back to School Rally

Mattie Rhodes Center will host a Back to School Rally on Thursday, August 3, from 4 pm until 7 pm at the Northeast location (148 N. Topping Ave.). The event will include a limited number of free school supplies, a school uniform raffle, free immunizations and health screenings, sign-ups for the center’s Soccer for Success program, as well as a bounce house and games for kids. The rally will also be an opportunity to learn more about Mattie Rhodes Center programs and other community resources.

KCPS Summerfest

Kansas City Public Schools will host its annual Summerfest event on Saturday, August 5, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at KCPS Board of Education Park (located on the northeast corner of 29th Street and Troost Avenue). Summerfest is an opportunity for school children of all ages to celebrate and get ready for the arrival of the new school year. This event will feature live entertainment, athletic competitions, educational games and free food. In preparation for school, students will have the opportunity to receive a free backpack, school supplies, athletic physicals and immunizations. Summerfest is open to the community and will include a variety of community resources and children’s activities.

Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting

The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, August 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone).
