Last day for Della Lamb Operation Santa Claus store
Della Lamb Community Services (500 Woodland) will finish distributing holiday gifts for its 42nd Annual Operation Santa Claus event on Wednesday, December 14. Today is the last day that the organization is accepting donations in support of the annual event. NEKC Chamber Open House and Ribbon Cutting – Dec. 14
The Northeast Chamber of Commerce will host an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at its new location (2657 Independence Avenue) on Wednesday, Dec. 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The ribbon cutting will take place at 6:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for the community to take in the Chamber’s new office space on Independence Avenue. Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 
Kansas City Museum – history of the R.A. Long family
Every Wednesday-Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) offers free docent-guided tours of the first floor of Corinthian Hall and the first floor of the Carriage House. Visitors learn about the history and legacy of the Long family and of the Kansas City Museum.

 
Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting

Police Athletic League Holiday Party
The Police Athletic League (PAL) will host a Holiday Party at the PAL Center (1801 White) on Thursday, December 15, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The event will include pizza and refreshments, music, a photo booth, face painting, cookie decorating, a visit from Santa Claus, presents for kids, and a special treat for the parents of PAL kids.

Northeast Fit-Mix
Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, December 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness class. The class alternates between chair fitness techniques and the new “Soul-Flo” yoga activities. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise in these courses at the North-East Public Library.

 
Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Public Library
Come out to the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, December 16 from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available, and no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches can answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

Fairy Princess event at Kansas City Museum
Celebrate Kansas City’s beloved tradition of The Fairy Princess for the last time of the season on Saturday, Dec. 17 or Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone), from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Museum invites the community to share holiday wishes with the Fairy Princess, enjoy storytelling, performances, and hands-on activities, and take home a sweet treat. The cost to attend this event is $10 per child; no RSVP is necessary.

 
KC NoVA’s Christmas toy giveaway at IBCC
The Kansas City No Violence Alliance (KC NoVA) has teamed up with Michael Bergens with “Hands to Heart” to host a Christmas Toy Giveaway on Saturday, December 17, beginning at 12:00 p.m. in the back parking lot of Independence Boulevard Christian Church (606 Gladstone, KCMO). A 35-foot trailer full of toys will be on site to provide families with a little help this holiday season. Toys will be available for kids up to 12 years of age, and the kids must be present to receive a gift. IBCC will be providing winter clothing for those in need, and a Harvesters mobile food truck will also be on site for the event.

Indian Mound Neighborhood Meeting
In lieu of its regular meeting, the Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host a potluck dinner at Mattie Rhodes Center (148 Topping) on Monday, December 19, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Winners of the 2nd Annual Holiday Lights contest will be announced.

 
Heart Healthy Screening at North-East Library
Stop by the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Monday, December 19 from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. for a health screening. No appointment is necessary, and the screenings shouldn’t take long.

Parks Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Parks Board will on Tuesday, December 20, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the KC Parks Administration building (4600 East 63rd Street Trafficway). The Board of Parks and Recreation holds public meetings twice a month on Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. All meetings start at 2 p.m. and are open to the public.

Head out to the Central branch (14 W. 10th St.) of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, December 24 at 12:00 p.m. for a showing of Tim Burton’s A Nightmare Before Christmas. Tim Burton has never been about convention, even (and maybe especially) at Christmas. He delivered a very different kind of holiday classic in The Nightmare Before Christmas, a stop-motion animation musical that exemplifies his quirky, dark, and invariably imaginative take on the world.

 
Free budgeting class in Spanish at NE Public Library
The North-East Public will host a free budgeting class on Wednesday, December 21 beginning at 1:00 p.m., and the class will be conducted in Spanish. Get a snapshot of your finances, identify components of a budget, learn how to incorporate everyday savings, and learn how to set and achieve financial goals.
