KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Visitors will also tour the exhibit inside Corinthian Hall: Planning for the Future: Find History at Kansas City Museum. Admission is free and this week’s tours will be held Wednesday through Friday at 2 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Canvas Art Exhibit

Join the Kansas City Museum for “Kansas City Canvas: Thomas Hart Benton and Beyond.” Explore the artisan world of Thomas Hart Benton and Kansas City artists through the collection of the Kansas City Museum. As part of the 125th anniversary of Thomas Hart Benton’s birth, the Museum will be showcasing the historical life and work of this amazing artist. The Museum will be displaying such lithograph prints as Forward Pass, Benton Home and more from our collection. The Museum, through the lens of history, will also be exploring works of art from several other KC artists including works from George Caleb Bingham, James Fitzgibbon, Daniel MacMorris and the WPA art of H.L. Pierre. Each piece will be accompanied by an essay from museum staff, area historians and artists offering insights about the history, culture and art of their chosen piece. Tours begin every hour, on the hour at 10 a.m. with the last tour at 3 p.m.

Cliff Driver & Spirit of KC Scenic Byway Connector Trail Meeting

Join the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at the Garrison Community Center, 1124 E. Fifth St., for an open house regarding the implementation of bicycle and pedestrian connections between the River Market area and Kessler Park. There will be no formal presentations, so feel free to stop by anytime to find out more about: The location and design of bicycle and pedestrian accommodations along Third Street, Cherry Street, Independence Avenue and Cliff Drive and other issues. Staff will be on hand to answer questions and discuss issues and/or concerns.

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. This story time and play group promotes literacy with children with the participation of caring family members in activities that explore the world of language using stories, songs, and crafts.

Knights of Columbus Fish Fry

Join Knights of Columbus Council 4613 for a night of bingo with a fish fry dinner. on Friday, April 4. The fish fry is from 4:30 – 8 pm. while bingo goes from 7-9 p.m. in the St. Joseph’s Hall at St. Anthony’s Parish Hall, 3208 Lexington, Kansas City, Mo.

 

Saturday, April 5

Mini-Health Fair

Join the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for a miniature health fair beginning at noon on Saturday, April 5, to visit the many booths that will be providing information on a healthy lifestyle. The fair is conjunction with Truman Medical Center.

Computer Class

Learn about navigating your computer in this class, which offers insight into hardware and software components. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library.

Northeast Vikings N Club Association

From 8:30 – 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5, at the Raytown Hy-Vee, 9400 E. 350 Hwy, to catch up with the latest happenings, share a little history and look forward to the 100 year celebration! Breakfast will be served at 8 a.m.

Sunday Family Movie

Join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its Sunday Family Movie at 2 p.m. at the library. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Family Fun Day: Kansas City Artists

Join the Kansas City Museum from noon – 4 p.m. for a free afternoon of creating arts and crafts and playing games inspired by the Kansas City Canvas exhibit.

Wimpy Kid Club

Attention all fans of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid! North-East Public Library will host a book club at the library at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 8. Attendees will read from the book, act out scenes, create crafts and play games. The event is intended for children ages 8-11.

Club A Cultural Celebration of India

Join University of Kansas instructor and choreographer Anjali Tata-Hudson and members of the Asian-Indian community for an afternoon of Indian poetry, live and recorded music, dance, visual art, and personal narratives beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the North-East Library, 6000 Wilson Road. Following the presentations, sample a variety of Indian cuisine.

The program and post-event reception are presented by the Vox Narro project, which pairs writers and immigrant groups in presenting the cultural traditions and stories of immigrant communities. Vox Narro is supported by the Rocket Grants program, which is funded by the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and administered by the Charlotte Street Foundation and the Spencer Museum of Art in support of innovative, public-oriented work in nontraditional spaces.

Scarrit Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting

The next meeting for the Scarrit Renaissance Neighborhood Association is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 7, at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.
