Story Time and Craft
Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers.  Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Mid America Begonia Society Show
Mid America Begonia Society will host its annual show and sale at Loose Park Garden Center, 5200 Pennsylvania Avenue, Kansas City, Mo., on Sept. 27-28. Hours of Sept. 27 will be noon to 4 p.m. for the plant sale and hours of Sept. 28 will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the plant sale and 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the show. Admission and parking are free.

Health and Wellness Walk
Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center has partnered with Jackson County, Mo., Chapter of The Links to host a health and wellness walk on Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Health screenings will also be available on site. The walk begins at the Spirit of Freedom Fountain, located at Brush Creek Blvd. and Cleveland. Registration is $10 per person and $5 for children under 12. American Royal Parade
The American Royal Parade will kick off at 9:45 a.m. at Pershing and Grand and will move north on Grand to the Power & Light District. The parade is considered the official kick-off of the American Royal season and also honors our country’s military veterans. To show their appreciation, a number of businesses and museums are offering discounts this fall to military personnel with a valid ID. Northeast Streetcar Meeting
Participate in the interactive streetcar workshop regarding the potential streetcar line for Independence Avenue. Ask questions and share your feedback. Meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 1, at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center, 825 Euclid Ave., Kansas City, Mo.

Nuestra Herencia Speaker Series
The Kansas City Museum, along with the Latino Writers Collective, will host the Nuestra Herencia Speaker Series at the Kansas City Public Library Central Branch, 14 W. 10th St., Kansas City, Mo. Reception will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the presentation at 6:30 p.m. Historian Amy S. Greenberg will discuss her book “A Wicked War” and its cast of colorful characters. The book depicts the Mexican-American War. The event is free to the public.

Community Harvest in the Park
Jerusalem Farm, a non-profit organization that addresses home repair needs for low income families and individuals as well as community building, will host the first annual Community Harvest in the Park at Cliff Drive Disc Golf Course on Oct. 5. The event is geared toward celebrating the neighborhood and will kick off with a disc golf tournament from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Competitive and non-competitive divisions will be available. Entry fee for the tournament is $30 per individual or $50 when you register with a friend, and includes lunch, event T-shirt, a commemorative mini-disc and two raffle tickets, as well as a chance to win longest putt or closest put to the pin competitions. Beginning at 11 a.m., there will be kids games, local booths and live music. Food, festival T-shirts, discs, raffle tickets and farmer’s market goodies will be available for purchase. The raffle drawing will begin at 3 p.m. All proceeds will benefit Jerusalem Farm, which is located in Historic Northeast. Tweed Ride in Northeast
Take a casual vintage-inspired bicycle ride during the annual Kansas City Tweed Ride on Oct. 5. Dress in your finest turn of the century era wools, tweeds, silks and argyles. No spandex please! Riders and their machines will have the opportunity to be judged and win prizes based on appearance, authenticity, originality and creativity. Riders will begin meeting at the Colonnade (near St. John Avenue and Gladstone Boulevard) at 10 a.m. Ride will begin at 11 a.m. and will end with a picnic at Scarritt Point. Fall Festival
Independence Boulevard Christian Church (IBCC), along with Hosana Christian Church and Immanuel Chin Christian Church, will host a Fall Festival Oct. 5 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at IBCC, 606 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, Mo. Events will include a rummage sale, bingo, kids’ festival, hamburgers and hotdogs for purchase, live music and more. All are welcome to attend.

Field Trip and Hay Ride for Teens
North-East Public Library will host a field trip to nearby ranch on Oct. 11 for teens aged 13 to 17. In addition, there will be a hayrack ride and hot dog and marshmallow roasting. Teens must turn in a permission slip by Oct. 8. Space is limited. Permission slips are available at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd., Kansas City, Mo.

Knights of Columbus Monthly Breakfast
Knights of Columbus will host its monthly breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Oct. 13, at St. Anthony’s St. Joseph Hall, 3208 Lexington Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Breakfast will include biscuits and gravy, sausage, pancakes, scrambled eggs, potato casserole, chorizo con huevo and more. Cost is $6.50 for adults and $4 for children ages 8-12.

NEKCHS Homes Tour
Northeast Kansas City Historical Society will host its annual Homes Tour on Oct. 19  from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Six houses will be featured in the Lykins, Independence Plaza and Sheffield neighborhoods. None of the homes have been on tour before. Tickets cost $12 in advance or $15 at the door. Tickets will be available the day of the event at the ticket tent at the Mayfair Cleaners, 2807 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo.
