KC Museum Kids Summer Drop-ins
This summer, drop in with your kids for games, music, stories and arts and crafts. Each drop-in will feature a different historical theme. This week’s set of summer drop-ins will be held on July 24 and 26 from noon to 3 p.m. Cost is free. Summer Drop-ins will be held every Wednesday and Friday in July and August.

Kansas City Museum Hard Hat Happy Hour
Explore Kansas City Museum’s 100-plus-year-old mansion home, Corinthian Hall, with a glass of wine from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. You’ll see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. Examine 100-year-old craftsmanship and hear first-hand about plans for the grand mansion’s future from museum staff. Cost is $5. Tour members must be 21 to attend and wear closed-toe shoes.

Story Time and Craft
Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

North-East Library Mini Health Fair
The North-East Public Library is partnering with Truman Medical Center to host a Mini Health Fair beginning at noon at the library. There will be a variety of booths with information on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Join the North-East Public Librayr, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its monthly Northeast Book Club at 2 p.m. Share your passion for books and join in on riveting book discussions.

Scarritt Renaissance Monthly Meeting
Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will host its monthly meeting at the Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., beginning at 6:30 p.m. Martha Lally of the Kansas City Museum Advisory Board (KCMAB) and City Council and KCMAB member Scott Wagner are the guest speakers and will talk about the long-term interests of the Kansas City Museum. All are encouraged to attend to talk about the museum and how to move programming and renovations forward.

Free Health Checks
Glennon Place Nursing Center will be at Spalitto’s Pharmacy, 3801 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo., to perform free blood pressure and blood sugar checks from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Street Car Expansion Kick-off Event
Representatives from the city of Kansas City, including Mayor Sly James, will talk about potential plans for expanding the downtown streetcar into other areas of the city. There will also be a public presentation on the project. The kick-off event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Board Room located inside Union Station.

KC Museum Summer Concert Series
The next concert in the Kansas City Museum’s Summer Concert Series will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the museum. The Wires, an exploration in string sound, will perform. Cost is free.

Salvation Army Neighborhood Celebration
The Salvation Army will host a Neighborhood Celebration from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 10 at The Salvation Army Bellefontaine Corps Community Center, 3013 E. 9th St. Activities will include a petting zoo, face painting, dunk tanks, KCPD Mounted Patrol, inflatables, food, games, prizes, music and more. All are invited to attend this free event.

Scarritt Coffee Club
Scarritt Coffee Club will host its monthly gathering from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Aug. 10. Guest of honor is Northeast resident Veda Rogers, who recently published the book, “Life’s About a Dream.” Host is Rebecca Koop, who will show off her community garden and professional pottery studio. Independence Plaza Monthly Meeting
Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council will host its monthly meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center on Euclid. Guest speaker will be Rep. Randy Dunn.

Community Empowerment Event
The Penny Mill Foundation will host a Community Empowerment Event from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 at Blue Valley Park, 23rd and Topping, Kansas City, Mo. The day will include live music, dance performances by “Indian Pow Wow”, free hot dogs, soda, popcorn and giveaways. In addition, there will be special speakers, free horse rides, a trick horse show by Rex Purefoy, face painting, KCPD Mounted Patrol and more. All are invited to attend this free event.

Un-Chef Cook-Off
Newhouse, a domestic violence shelter for women and their children, will be hosting the fundraiser, Un-Chef Cook-Off, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at Studio 2131 at 2131 Washington St., Kansas City, Mo. The “Un-Chefs” will include KSHB-TV Investigative Reporter Keith King (the 2010 Un-Chef Champion), KSHB-TV Morning Anchor JiaoJiao Shen, and KSHB-TV Meteorologist Kalee Dionne. Watch the Un-Chefs prepare dishes that remind them of home cooking. Find out if they can cook as well as they report the news! Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Northeast International Taste & Tour
Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce will once again host its International Taste & Tour on Sept. 7 from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the American Sons of Columbus Hall, 2415 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo. More than 20 international restaurants will feature samples and more. In addition, there will be a cash bar, live auction and 50/50 drawing. A social hour and trolley tour will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by sample tastings and a live performance by the Grand Marquis Band from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. From 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. the swing dance troupe, The Swingsters, will perform.
