CID Celebration

Join the Northeast community in celebrating the passage of the Independence Avenue Community Improvement District (CID). The CID Celebration will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Meet at the Dairy Barn, 2535 Independence Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Activities will include food trucks, DJ music, a ribbon cutting and cake, special speakers and a special event.

Art of the Mask

Mattie Rhodes Center will host the Art of the Mask silent auction and opening reception from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Mattie Rhodes Gallery, 919 W. 17th St., Kansas City, Mo. A number of masks donated by local artists will be up for auction.  Food and drinks will also be available. All proceeds benefit Mattie Rhodes.

Story Time and Craft

Join North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. This story time group promotes literacy in children with the participation of caring family members.

Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Yard Sale

Scarritt Coffee Club Monthly Gathering

Scarritt Coffee Club will host its monthly gathering from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Guest of honor is Fresco artist Joy Baer, who will transport you to ancient Pompeii with her presentation on fresco art. Hosts Susan and Larry will astound you with their story of transforming this former insane asylum into their drop-dead gorgeous home. Please bring a savory or sweet breakfast hors d’oeuvre to share. Independence Plaza Neighborhood Meeting

The Independence Plaza Neighborhood Council will host its monthly meeting from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center on Euclid. All are encouraged to attend in this neighborhood planning session.

Falun Dafa

Join Northeast Public Library for a session of Falun Dafa at 5:15 p.m. Falun Dafa is a traditional self-cultivation practice to improve mind and body. The session will be held every Tuesday evening.

KC Museum Summer Concert Series

The Kansas City Museum’s Summer Concert Series will kick off on June 14 at 7 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. Listen to the acoustic sounds of Kevin Hiatt with guest percussionist Pat Conway. Upcoming concerts include: July 12, Gentleman Savage; and Aug. 9, The Wires. There is no cost to attend.

River Market Regional Exhibition Reception

The 31st River Market Regional Exhibition opening reception will be held Friday, June 21, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. This year’s exhibit includes 44 artists and 53 pieces of artwork. States represented include Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

Wimpy Kid Club

Come and celebrate your favorite series at the North-East Public Library at 5 p.m. on June 12. The Wimpy Kid Club is open to ages 8 to 12 and activities will include reading from the book, acting out scenes, craft time and playing games.

Mattie Rhodes Music Camp

Mattie Rhodes Centers, 148 N. Topping, will host a music camp, with the help of the band “Making Movies” from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 10-14. Campers will participate in both individual and group lessons in guitar, bass, piano, voice, drums and percussion, and will perform in a concert at the culmination of the week. Mattie Rhodes Art Camp

Free Disaster Training for Residents

The City of Kansas City Office of Emergency Management will host a free Community Emergency Response Training for individuals ages 18 and older who live or work in Kansas City. The training will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. the last three Saturdays of June – June 15, June 22 and June 29 – at the City’s Emergency Operations Center, 635 Woodland Ave. Community Emergency Response Training is designed to help individuals prepare themselves and assist family members and neighbors in the immediate aftermath of a major emergency. Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour

Sixty urban farms and gardens across the Kansas City metro, including a handful in Historic Northeast, will be on display during the 2013 Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  on Saturday, June 22, and Sunday, June 23. A number of sites will feature cooking demonstrations by local chefs, live music and activities for the entire family. The tour will also include an organized bike tour.
