KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Do you enjoy the weekly postcards featured on page six of the Northeast News?

If you haven’t visited the library’s postcard exhibit, then a special presentation this weekend could be up your historic alley.

Beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at the Central Library location, 14 W. 10th St., Steve Noll, executive director of the Jackson County Historical Society and a longtime postcard collector, will lead an illustrated walk through Kansas City’s postcard history titled Iconic Kansas City from Our Postcard Past.

The event ties into the exhibit, Greetings from Kansas City: Postcard Views of a Midwestern Metropolis, 1900-1950, currently on display at the Central Library. According to a press release from the Kansas City Public Libraries, first shown in 2013, the exhibition is being reprised after earning the American Library Association’s Excellence in Library Programming Award. Noll will review the history of Kansas City postcards and their portrayal of the many revered historical, cultural, and commercial icons associated with the city.

In the spring of 2013, Northeast News publisher and local historian Michael Bushnell hosted a series of neighborhood history presentations with the help of historic postcards. Noll has held the title of executive director of the historical society in Independence since 2004 and is an officer of the Kansas City Postcard Club. This presentation is part of the Missouri Valley Sundays series, a program of the Missouri Valley Special Collections at the Central Library. The series is made possible, in part, by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Admission to the event is free. Free parking is also available in the Library District parking garage at 10th Street and Baltimore Avenue.
