One of the great things about Bungalows is that they come in a variety of styles and configurations. Most, however, are built in the Arts and Crafts style with a front to back floor plan that varies very little from house to house. Plans include common areas such as living and dining areas along one side with bedrooms on the other side, separated by a short hall, with a single bath situated between the two bedrooms.

This week’s home located at 321 S. Cypress is an architectural gem that conveys a sense of time and place that harkens back almost 80 years. But first we have to get past the massive, solid oak front door that comes complete with original hardware. (Note the original copper mock straps). Inside the living area, a wonderful brick fireplace commands the cavernous living area with vaulted ceiling and a leaded front window that spans almost floor to ceiling.

The dining room is not quite as large but is still big enough for moderately sized family gatherings. The kitchen, at least in this case, is positioned adjacent to the dining room instead of directly behind it, making the floor plan in this Bungalow unique. Two bedrooms and a single bath round out the first floor. The basement is partially finished and features a second full bath as well as a third bedroom. A separate entrance off the kitchen allows semi-private access to the basement, too.

Mechanically, the home is turn-key to the new owner. An upgraded electrical panel handles the power load while a newer 25-year roof protects the home from the elements. Central heat and air provide year-round comfort and a shared drive allows for off-street parking of the family vehicle. Hardwood floors throughout, part of which have been refinished, offer even greater character depth to the home. Steel siding and storm windows ensure the extremes of nature stay outside where they belong.

If you’re a fan of vintage Bungalow style homes in great condition, this may be worth a serious look. Toss in a modest price tag of $59,900 and you’ve got a great home for less than renting on a monthly basis.
