City Market will be blooming with flowers and other colorful vegetation Saturday, May 7.

To kick off the 2011 Farm to Table Celebration Series, “Flower Power” will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and feature an array of bedding plants, hanging baskets, flowering shrubs, perennials and annuals. In addition, there will be vegetable plants, herbs, ground cover, landscape decorations and other festive plants.

Stop by the Farm to Table stage and listen to expert advice on a variety of topics including orchids, planting and caring for irises, worm castings, area growing communities and the power of flowers. Activities for the whole family and story time with Mother Nature will also be available.

Attendees can also purchase a book at the Friends of the Kansas City Public Library’s Used Book Sale, drop off a fresh produce donation for Harvesters, or browse through the 30-plus City Market merchants for the perfect Mother’s Day gift.

Farm to Table Celebrations take place the first Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Upcoming celebrations include: June 4 – Get Your Sweet On; July 2 – Groovalicious Fruit; Aug. 6 –Veg Out; Sept. 3 – For the Love of Meat; Oct. 1 – Pumpkins, Gourds & Apples, Oh My!
