Kids’ Cafe
The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites kids to the library on Wednesday, June 21 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Kids’ Cafe, where young children and teens alike can enjoy a healthy snack. This event is for youth 18 and under.

 

Thursday, June 22
Kansas City Museum: Making a Museum Tour
The next ‘Making a Museum’ tours of the Kansas City Museum will be held on Thursday, June 22, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. This event is free to attend, though RSVP is required. Guided by the Museum’s Executive Director Anna Marie Tutera, tour the first floor of Corinthian Hall, and learn about the Museum’s new mission, vision, and restoration/renovation planning process. Participate in a conversation and share ideas about the development of future programs, exhibitions, events, and volunteer opportunities. Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Northeast Farmer’s Market
The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, June 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Friday, June 23
Hyde Park Children’s Festival
Hyde Park (36th and Gilham) will host the Hyde Park Children’s Festival on Friday, June 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Festivities will kick off with a concert, followed by a screening of The Lego Batman Movie at 8:30 p.m. The event includes prizes and refreshments. Knights of Columbus movie night
The Knights of Columbus Council 4613 will host a movie night on Friday, June 23, at St. Anthony Parish (318 Benton Blvd.). The doors open at 6 p.m., and a showing of The Princess Bride will begin at 7 p.m. This event is free to attend, but popcorn, snacks, soda and water will be for sale during the movie.

Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Branch
Come out to the North-East Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, June 23 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available; no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

 

Saturday, June 24
Community Days at Budd Park
Stop by Budd Park on Saturday, June 24 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for the latest Community Days celebration. This month will feature a block party that will include free games, hot dogs, beverages, music, and fun for the whole family.

Scarritt Renaissance playground build day
The Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association will host a playground build day at The Concourse on Saturday, June 24, beginning at 8:30 a.m. There are jobs for people at all skill levels to help construct playground equipment for 2-5 year olds. Volunteers are invited to bring to tools, as the group will be building another large Adirondack chair to replace the one that was vandalized this past winter. They will also be removing the vandalized tin roof over the picnic tables and will eventually plant some vines to provide shade. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided for volunteers, and food trucks will also be available as part of the Tour of KC bicycle race taking place along Cliff Drive.

Theatre of the Imagination
The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host the ‘Theatre of the Imagination’ reading event on Saturday, June 24, beginning at 3 p.m. Make reading come to life with “Stories Alive!” Professional actor Miles McMahon gets kids excited about reading with his highly energetic renditions of children’s literature.

 

Monday, June 26
Sheffield Neighborhood Association Meeting
The next meeting of the Sheffield Neighborhood Association will be on Monday, June 26, beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church (1029 Bennington). The meeting’s topic will be the $800 million G.O. Bond.

Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Meeting
The next meeting of the Scarritt Renaissance Neighborhood Association – typically held on the first Monday of the month – will be pushed back to Monday, July 10 due to the 4th of July holiday. Neighborhood association meetings begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone).
