Wednesday, June 14
COMBAT Neighborhood clean-up drug take-back
Jackson County COMBAT will hold a prescription drug take-back event on Wednesday, June 14 at Lykins Park, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. The event will also include a neighborhood clean-up effort. Dump trucks will be located along the side streets in front of the park.

Substance abuse recovery
A substance abuse recovery meeting will take place at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at New Beginning Apostolic Church. Contact Frederick Wilson (816-786-1981) for more information.

Adult ESL class
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an adult ESL class on Wednesday, June 14, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In this class, attendees will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. Kids’ Cafe
The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites kids to the library on Wednesday, June 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Kids’ Cafe, where young children and teens alike can enjoy a healthy snack. This event is for youth 18 and under.

A Photographer’s Street Guide to Kansas City
The Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch hosts Kansas City-based photographer Mike Sinclair on Wednesday, June 14, beginning at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation entitled, A Photographer’s Street Guide to Kansas City. Sinclair will discuss his work in an illustrated presentation spotlighting three series of images captured in downtown KC, along Main Street, and on Armour Boulevard. He also looks at his current projects. The event, part of a year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Charlotte Street Foundation, is co-sponsored by the Charlotte Street Foundation and made possible by a grant from the Enid and Crosby Kemper Foundation, UMB Bank, n.a., Trustee.

 

Thursday, June 15
Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, June 15, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center (1512 Van Brunt).

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Northeast Farmer’s Market
The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, June 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Friday, June 16
Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Branch
Come out to Kansas City Public Library’s North-East Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, June 16 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available; no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk 2017
The Northeast Arts KC’s Summer Dusk Concert Series will be held on every 3rd Friday through September, in the Colonnade Building at Concourse Park from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  The next concert will be on Friday, June 16 with a performance from classic pop/rock band Stage Fright. 3rd Friday in Columbus Park
Head out to Columbus Park on Friday, June 16, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. for the monthly 3rd Friday’s art event. Participating galleries include the trap gallery (525 Gillis), Gillis Gallery (1029 E. 5th St.), Kiosk galley (916 E. 5th St.), and the 815 gallery (815 E. 5th St.). Browse the galleries and pop-up porches, visit neighborhood restaurants, and take in the culture of Columbus Park.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, June 16, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise.

 

Saturday, June 17
Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Dumpster Day
The Blue Valley Neighborhood Association will host a dumpster day on Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m. until noon. Hazardous waste, paint, tires and appliances will not be collected. Donations will be collected at each site to help continue these clean-up events. Trash drop-off locations will be at 6214 E. 17th St., 24th Street and Drury, 1800 Ewing, 1247 Hardesty, 29th Terr. and Oakley, 1900 Van Brunt, 27th and Jackson and 27th and Lister.

Art INN the Garden
Northeast Arts KC presents the second Art INN the Garden event on Saturday, June 17, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Inn at 425 (425 Gladstone Blvd., KCMO). Twelve artists with connections to Northeast Arts KC will be showcasing some of their work. Photography, painting, ceramics, pottery, RAKU, mixed media, note cards, and sculpture are some of the creations available for purchase.

 

Sunday, June 18
Sunday Matinee
The Kansas City Public Library’s North-East Branch will host a Sunday matinee on June 18 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. This family-friendly event is designed for parents with young children.

Indian Mound Neighborhood Meeting
The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Monday, June 19 at the North-East Public Library at 6 p.m.

 

Tuesday, June 20
Independence Avenue pedestrian safety – public hearing
The Independence Avenue Pedestrian Safety Improvements Study will kick off on Tuesday, June 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a public open house at the Kansas City Public Library North-East Branch (6000 Wilson Ave.). Attendees will have the opportunity to review and provide comments on the portion of Independence Avenue included in the study – from Forest Avenue to Ewing Avenue. Study representatives will be available to discuss issues and answer questions from attendees.
