Kids’ Cafe
The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites kids to the library on Wednesday, June 7 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. for Kids’ Cafe, where young children and teens alike can enjoy a healthy snack. This event is for youth 18 and under.

Adult ESL class
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an adult ESL class on Wednesday, June 7, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In this class, attendees will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. Thursday, June 8
Next public hearing to discuss single terminal at KCI
The City of Kansas City, Missouri, is considering proposals to privately finance a new single terminal at Kansas City International Airport, and residents are being encouraged to join the discussion. To that end, the City has scheduled a public hearing on Thursday, June 8, beginning at 9:15 a.m. on the 26th floor of City Hall. The hearing will provide residents with an opportunity learn more about the single terminal airport proposals and offer feedback directly to City Council members.

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Northeast Farmer’s Market
The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, June 8, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Tech coach drop-ins at North-East Branch
Come out to the North-East Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, June 9 from 1:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. to get some tips from a local tech coach. Computers will be available; no appointments are necessary. Tech coaches answer questions about a variety of subjects, including Microsoft programs, the internet, email, formatting a job resume and applying for employment online, and syncing your smart phone.

Knights of Columbus Dinner/Bingo
Join the Kights of Columbus Council Cardinal Glennon #4613 for dinner and bingo on Friday, June 9 at St. Anthony’s – St. Joseph Hall (3208 Lexington 64124). Hamburger and salad dinner for $6 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Bingo from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Coffee included, drinks and desserts $1 each.

The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, June 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise.

Free summer concert at the Kansas City Museum
The Kansas City Museum’s free summer concert series continues on Friday, June 9 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a performance by Chris Meck and The Guilty Birds. The band brings a fresh perspective to the classic guitar rock of Jimi Hendrix, merged with the affectionately soulful Stax sound.

Citizenship Prep at Central Branch
Head on out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, June 10 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Come learn the basic US history information, review USCIS’s 100 Questions, and practice the citizenship exam/interview in this free course. Advanced English skills preferred. All you need is a notebook and a pen.

Lykins Neighborhood meeting
The next Lykins Neighborhood meeting will be held on Monday, June 12, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 3704 E. 12th St. Join Lykins neighbors as they review crime and grime, organize neighborhood cleanups, and focus on creating a better community. Agents of Innovation at Central Branch
Join the Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch on Tuesday, June 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. for a program about the inter-war period between World Wars I and II. In a discussion of his book Agents of Innovation: The General Board and the Design of the Fleet that Defeated the Japanese Navy, military historian John T. Kuehn examines the influence of the advisory General Board of the Navy in assembling the American fleet in the wake of the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922. The pact—signed by the U.S., Britain, Japan, France, and Italy—limited naval buildup. Despite the constraints, the U.S. designed a fleet that fought the estimable Imperial Japanese Navy to a standstill in the early years of WWII.

Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk 2017
The Northeast Arts KC’s Summer Dusk Concert Series will be held on every 3rd Friday through September, in the Colonnade Building at Concourse Park from 7 to 9 p.m.  The next concert will be on Friday, June 16 with a performance from classic pop/rock band Stage Fright. Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Dumpster Day
The Blue Valley Neighborhood Association will host a dumpster day on Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m. until noon. Hazardous waste, paint, tires and appliances will not be collected. Donations will be collected at each site to help continue these clean-up events. Trash drop-off locations will be at 6214 E. 17th St., 24th Street and Drury, 1800 Ewing, 1247 Hardesty, 29th Terr. and Oakley, 1900 Van Brunt, 27th and Jackson and 27th and Lister.
