KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Two children died on the morning of Friday, March 17 after a tragic injury accident just west of the intersection of 12th and Ewing.

KCPD officers responded to the scene just after 11:35 a.m., when they observed two children who had been ejected from a vehicle. The children, described by KCPD as juveniles, were pronounced deceased at the scene. The adult driver was also ejected from the vehicle, and was deemed to be in serious condition when they were transported to a local hospital. An adult passenger was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The vehicle was traveling eastbound on 12th Street when the driver apparently lost control and hit a curb. A utility pole and a metal fence were badly damaged by subsequent impacts before the vehicle came to a stop near a home on the north side of 12th St. KCPD officials stated that excessive speed was the main factor in the crash.

In a statement issued just before 1:30 p.m., KCPD indicated that seat belts and child safety restraints were not being utilized by the vehicle’s occupants. Accident Investigation officers are still looking into the incident.
