KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Northeast man was seriously wounded by gunfire in front of an apartment building at the 300 block of N. Gladstone in the early morning hours of Friday, September 16.

According to a narrative statement released by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, the shooting occurred just after 3:00 a.m. Officers were dispatched to the scene on reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, the victim was found in front of the apartment building in a pool of blood, suffering from a gunshot wound to his buttocks and a graze laceration to his left cheek. The responding officers observed shell casings surrounding the victim, along with the smell of gun powder and the sight of bullet holes throughout the apartment building’s common area.

When officers asked the victim who shot him, the man indicated that he didn’t know the suspects. Authorities knocked down the victim’s apartment door with a sledge hammer in order to conduct a protective sweep of the premises, and the officers found no other people inside. Officers did, however, find large bags of an unidentified substance and a gun safe inside the residence. The victim was then transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Officers went on to speak to two neighbors, both of which had bullet holes entering their apartments following the shooting. The victim knocked on the door of his next-door neighbor after the shooting, yelling that he’d been shot. After some initial trepidation, the neighbor opened her door and brought water to the victim. The next-door neighbor’s two children were also inside the apartment during the shooting, though no one was injured.

A second neighbor told authorities that she had been sleeping when she was awoken by the gunfire in the hallway. She went out into the hall after hearing the victim yelling for help.

Two unknown black males are suspected in the shootings.
