KC Museum Hard Hat Tour

Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the 100+ year old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. On these tours, you will see remaining original architecture on the first floors of Corinthian Hall (the mansion) and the Carriage House. Admission is free and tours will be held Wednesday through Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd.

Northeast Farmers’ Market

The Northeast Farmers’ Market (3001 Independence Ave., KCMO 64124) will be open on Thursday, August 18, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a wide assortment of vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and coffee.

Charlie Parker celebration – American Jazz Museum

Kansas City’s Charlie Parker Celebration 2016 at the American Jazz Museum (1616 E. 18th St.) commemorates the 96th anniversary of the birth of legendary jazz great with a special public program on Thursday, August 18, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a public reception. That will be followed by a presentation by Dr. Ron McCurdy, professor of music at the prestigious Thornton School of Music at USC, who will speak on The Life and Legacy of Charlie Parker in the Atrium of the American Jazz Museum. Admission is free. Complementing McCurdy’s talk will be the unveiling of a new temporary exhibit titled ‘A Musician in the Making: Charlie Parker in Kansas City, 1920-42.’

Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic

The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) will open its new evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting

The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, August 18, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center on Truman Road. Look for the sign.

Chair fitness

Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, August 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a chair fitness class. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

North Kansas City – Friday in the Park

Come on out to North Kansas City’s Festival Pavilion in Macken Park (Howell and Clark Ferguson Dr.) for live music on Friday, August 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The August 19 performance will be by Tom’s Town, who will play a wide variety of music. All concerts are free and open to the public, and every event features a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses. Macken Park offers plenty of parking, playgrounds, and restrooms, and the park is completely handicap accessible.

KCPS high school football

The Lincoln Prep Tigers will kick off their varsity football season on Friday, August 19 at 7:05 p.m. at Bryan Field (3500 E. Meyer Blvd), in a matchup against Hogan Prep. The game will also be featured on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel.

Saturday, August 20

Baseball clinic – Mulkey Square ball fields

Kansas City Parks and Recreation will celebrate renovations to the Mulkey Square ball fields (W. 13th and Summit St.) on Saturday, August 20 with a ribbon cutting ceremony and a PLAY BALL clinic. The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the clinic scheduled afterwards from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk Concert Series

The next concert in the Northeast Arts KC Summer Dusk Concert Series will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 at The Concourse in Kessler Park (3000 St. John Ave). Art-rock band The Philistines will perform. This performance is free to attend.

KCPS high school football

The Northeast Vikings will kick off their varsity football season at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20 at Bryan Field (3500 E. Meyer Blvd), in a matchup against Christ Academy.

Art in the Park

The next Art in the Park event at Ilus Davis Park (11th and Oak) will be held on Friday, August 26 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Stop by to enjoy music, performance art, and food trucks. This month’s performance will be by violinist Matthew Bennett. Bennett will perform pieces from his Then and Now collection, which highlights American music from the colonial period to the present.

Blue Valley Neighborhood Association – Dumpster Day

The Blue Valley neighborhood association will host a Dumpster Day on September 3, as well as a community picnic on September 11.
