KANSAS CITY, Missouri – KCPS celebrated the start of the school year in style on Saturday, August 6 with its Summerfest Back to School event, which took place from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the district’s new headquarters (2901 Troost).

The event included live music, a bounce house, several activity areas, plenty of food, thousands of free backpacks, and much more.

When new superintendent Dr. Mark Bedell spoke to attendees, he promised that next year’s event will be even bigger, and recognized his duty to bring a quality education to every student in the district.

“Ultimately, my job as the new incoming superintendent is to ensure that all of your children receive a highly effective and valuable education,” said Bedell. “That includes my three children, who are also enrolled into this school system.”

“Look out, because there are some great things on the horizon for Team KCPS and our community,” Bedell added. “Thank you.”
