KANSAS CITY, Missouri – Firefighters were called to 114 N. Topping at around 6:00 a.m. this morning to battle a fire likely started by transients. The second floor of the home suffered significant damage in the blaze. No injuries were reported and Bomb and Arson detectives were on the scene after the fire.

The home was one of eight such properties in Northeast targeted by East Patrol Commander Joe McHale for expedited demolition due to the level of illegal activity at the addresses. Another home on that list, 3221 Roberts, was recently demolished by city crews. Two other homes on the list in the 3800 block of E. 6th Street are still awaiting action.

An update on those addresses will be coming next week following a meeting between police, city officials and community stakeholders.
