Pueblo to Pueblo

Join the Kansas City Museum for its latest exhibit, Pueblo to Pueblo: The Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery. The exhibit runs until June 25 in Corinthian Hall and is free to view. Tours of the exhibit are offered every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. ESL Class

Join the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

Northeast Farmers’ Market

The Northeast Farmers’ Market (3001 Independence Ave., KCMO 64124) will be open on Thursday, June 23 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a wide assortment of vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and coffee.

Walk with ease

Join the North-East Library at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 to learn tips on walking with ease. This course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

Come to the North-East Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 for a diabetes self-management program. The program is open to all adults and free of charge. This workshop would benefit you if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, are living with someone with diabetes, or taking care of someone with diabetes.

Candidate forum at Scuola Vita Nuova

Missouri Senate District 11 and House District 19 primary candidates will convene at Scuola Vita Nuova (535 Garfield) on Thursday, June 23 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. for a candidate forum. The forum will be hosted by the League of Women Voters of Kansas City, Jackson, Clay and Platte Counties in combination with the Northeast Chamber of Commerce. Candidates will take questions from the audience. The primary election will be held on August 2, 2016; the last day to register to vote is July 6.

Art in the Park

Stop by Ilus Park (11th and Oak) on Friday, June 24 from 11:30 p.m. until 1:00 p.m to enjoy art in the park. Temporary, pop-up art displays will be featured, and performance artists and food trucks will also be on site. Art in the Park takes place on the last Friday of the month, from June until September.

 Hyde Park Children’s Film Festival

Bring the whole family out to Hyde Park on Friday, June 24 for a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Music will begin at 7:30 p.m., and the movie will start at 8:30 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to this fun, free evening in the park for the entire city. Chair fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Cultivate Kansas City’s Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour

Cultivate Kansas City’s annual Urban Farms and Gardens tour will be held this year on Saturday, June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, June 26 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Three Northeast gardens will be a part of the tour: St. John Gardens (3920 St. John), Pink Pony Farms (11th and Chestnut), and JVS Global Gardens (7th and Benton). Computer Class – Microsoft

Join North-East Public Library for a class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word, which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Kansas City Museum presents Summer Concert Series

Come out to the Kansas City Museum grounds (3218 Gladstone Blvd.) on Sunday, June 26 from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for the start of the museum’s Summer Concert Series, which will feature a performances from the Kansas City Symphony along with student performers from Harmony Project KC. All summer concerts are free and take place on the historic grounds of the Kansas City Museum. You may bring a blanket and a lawn chair and picnic on the museum grounds. RSVP is not necessary. Dogs are allowed in a designated area.

Chess club

Black Archives of Mid-America ‘With My Eyes No Longer Blind’ Exhibit

This permanent exhibit – named for the Langston Hughes poem – tells the story of African Americans in Kansas City from the time of Lewis and Clark to the mayorship of Emmanuel Cleaver II. Arranged both chronologically and thematically, this exhibit explores the development of churches, schools, places of entertainment, political organizations, businesses, and social clubs.

Kids Cafe

Kids 18 years old and younger are invited to the North-East library on Monday, June 27, to enjoy a free healthy snack courtesy of the library. Youths are invited to stop by at 2:00 p.m.

Heart of America Shakespeare Festival

The 24th iteration of the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival has begun, and performances of Twelfth Night will run Tuesdays-Sundays beginning at 8:00 p.m., through July 3 at Southmoreland Park (Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard and Oak Street).

World Refugee Day

The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) will host a World Refugee Day celebration on Saturday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1750 Independence Avenue. The event will begin with a panel discussion with local refugees, resettlement agencies, and others. The panel discussion will be followed by music, traditional dance, and food. This is part of an annual event by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

Spaghetti Dinner – Independence Boulevard Christian

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held Sunday, July 10th, 2016 from 12:30 to 2:30. The dinner is sponsored by the Deacons of Independence Boulevard Christian Church, 606 Gladstone Blvd. The cost for Individuals is $5, and $10 for families.
