Pueblo to Pueblo

Join the Kansas City Museum for its latest exhibit, Pueblo to Pueblo: The Legacy of Southwest Indian Pottery. The exhibit runs until June 25 in Corinthian Hall and is free to view. Tours of the exhibit are offered every 30 minutes from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday. Northeast Farmers’ Market

The Northeast Farmers’ Market (3001 Independence Ave., KCMO 64124) will be open on Thursday, May 26, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be live music and kids activities, as well as a wide assortment of vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, coffee, and more. The Northeast Farmers’ Market also participates in the Cultivate KC Double Up Food Bucks program. That means SNAP benefits can be matched for up to $25 each week, allowing customers to stretch their money twice as far.

At 3 p.m., head over to the North-East Library for a Chronic Disease Management Workshop. Open to all adults and free of charge. This workshop would benefit you if you have been diagnosed with a chronic disease, are living with someone with a chronic disease, or are taking care of someone with a chronic disease.

Adult Thursday – Wii Bowling

Come in to the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd) on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. to play Wii Bowling with other adults.

Stories and songs with John and Eric – NE Library

Join the North-East Public library on Friday, May 27 at 10:30 a.m. as children are taught about the history of the banjo, traditional folk and bluegrass music, as well as many more modern uses for the legendary instrument. The stories come to life through the banjo in order to really capture the imaginations and hearts of the children, or kids at heart.

An Evening with Juan Felipe Herrera – KC Public Library

Join the Kansas City Public Library – Central Branch (14 W 10th St., Kansas City, MO 64105) for an evening with poet Juan Felipe Herrera on Friday, May 27, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The son of migrant farm workers in California, Herrera traces his love of poetry to childhood and singing songs about the Mexican Revolution learned from his mother. He would go on to become his home state’s poet laureate and, in September 2015, the first Latino poet laureate of the U.S. At this event, Herrera will discuss his life and his poetry, and read from his works. Great flood of 1993 exhibit now open at St. Joseph Museum

Come out to St. Joseph’s Wyeth-Tootle Mansion (1100 Charles Street, 64501) to see a new display about 1993’s 500-year flood. “Confluence: The Great Flood of 1993” is newly open, and will run through 2018. The exhibit will explore the causes and provide a social history of the 1993 flood through videos and photographs. Chair fitness

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Memorial Day service at Union Cemetery

Weather permitting, the Union Cemetery’s Historical Society will hold a Memorial Day service at the cemetery (E 28th St. & Warwick Blvd.) on Saturday, May 28, beginning at 11:30 a.m. The annual Memorial service is held by the flagpole in the middle of the cemetery. Scouts, re-enactors and others will remember those who served their country with an “old-fashioned” ceremony.

Snyder’s Grand Reopening set for May 28

Snyder’s grocery store (2620 Independence Blvd.) will host a grand reopening event on Saturday, May 28, from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will include pony rides, a ribbon cutting, vendors, and free food.

Celebration at the Station with the KC Symphony

Come to Union Station on Saturday, May 28 beginning at 8:00 p.m. for a two-hour concert event featuring the Kansas City Symphony. The finale will be complemented with a choreographed fireworks display, presented to the beat of patriotic music.

Computer Class – Microsoft

Join North-East Public Library for a class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word, which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Black Archives of Mid-America ‘With My Eyes No Longer Blind’ Exhibit

This permanent exhibit – named for the Langston Hughes poem – tells the story of African Americans in Kansas City from the time of Lewis and Clark to the mayorship of Emmanuel Cleaver II. Arranged both chronologically and thematically, this exhibit explores the development of churches, schools, places of entertainment, political organizations, businesses, and social clubs.

Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. on Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, and Thursday’s to learn basic English skills: reading, writing, and conversation. No fee or books required.

NEHS upcoming class reunions

-The Northeast Class of 1986 will be hosting three-day event for their 30-year class reunion from June 9th to June 11th. The event will include a tour of Northeast HS, a meet and greet at John’s Big Deck, and the main event at Embassy Suites. Cost is $80. Email lynnenewton@hotmail.com with questions.
