Four Missouri firefighters were honored at a ceremony in Kingdom City, MO on Sunday, May 15 for making the ultimate sacrifice while carrying out their duties. Two of those firefighters, Larry Leggio and John Mesh, were members of the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department and Northeast natives.  Both were killed last October while responding to a two-alarm fire at an apartment building in the 2600 block of Independence Boulevard. Their names along with the names of two other Missouri firefighters killed in the line of duty in 2015 will be added to the Firefighters Line of Duty Memorial Wall. Members of both the Mesh family and the Leggio family attended the service.

“Once again in 2015 we saw the extreme dangers firefighters face in order to protect their fellow Missourians,” said Governor Jay Nixon, who spoke at the memorial service.  “We are tremendously grateful for their heroic service and for the sacrifices of the loved ones they left behind.”
