KANSAS CITY, Missouri – It’s time for another weekend in Kansas City, and that means a schedule jam-packed with activities in the Historic Northeast. For your convenience, the Northeast News has compiled a list of area events for the weekend of April 29-May 1.

Friday, April 29:

-The Source FINE ART (2201 Lexington Ave.) will hold an opening ceremony for its new exhibit, The Fluid Grotesque, by Lola Rat. A press release distributed by The Source FINE ART stated that, “Lola utilizes wool, silk gauze, lace, flowers coated in cultivated crystals and bodies cast from wax to create three dimensional installation using monochromatic palettes. Lola’s work focuses on gender identity, looking at representations of masculinity and femininity as well as everything in between.” The exhibit will also have a closing ceremony on Friday, May 20, but viewings in the interim can only be seen on an appointment basis.

Saturday, April 30:

-‘Team Up to Clean Up’ Community Clean-up will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Concourse Park and Budd Park. Compactor trucks will be on each site to collect trash, yard waste, and bulky items. There will also be a trailer available for tire disposal at Concourse Park. This rain or shine clean-up event is for Kansas City, Missouri residents only.

-Mark your calendar’s for Kansas City Parks and Rec’s annual Children’s Day celebration, which will take place on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the 9th and Van Brunt Athletic Fields Park. Children’s Day has been a tradition since 1925, and this free event recognizes the vital importance of children in the community by providing free food, sports physicals, soccer clinics, sports tutorials, program registration, a bounce house, and much more.

Sunday, May 1:

-The American Sons and Daughters of Columbus are hosting a Spaghetti & Meatballs Dinner on Sunday, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hall (2415 Independence Ave., KCMO, 64124). Tickets for the meal are $8, while kids under 12 can eat for $4. Salad and dessert are included, and carry out orders are available. Call 816-483-7201 for details.

– The S.O.S Navy’s 2nd Annual “May Day!” Toy Boat Regatta will take place on Sunday, May 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Kessler Pond, located off Chestnut and Cliff Drive. Make a boat at home, bring last year’s, or build one on race day. Wooden boats will be available for kids to decorate and keep. Feel free to bring a grills, cooler (no glass), lawn chair, kites, and even the dog to enjoy this day at the park. UPDATE: This event has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 15.
