KANSAS CITY, Missouri – A Kansas City Dangerous Buildings Inspector joined firefighters on a crane above the former Speedy Cash site on Thursday, April 21, taking inventory of the extent of damage to the building damaged in a fatal fire on October 12, 2015.

The structure was designated as a dangerous building by the city shortly after the blaze, indicating that at least 50% of the structure was destroyed by the fire. That being the case, the building was set for automatic demolition by the city. More than six months later, however, the remains of the structure still stand at 2600 Independence Avenue.

Speedy Cash owners are contesting the demolition order, claiming that it was in fact only 43% destroyed by the fire.
